You need credentials to get an internship and internships to land a job… but how do you do that?
Experience PR began in 2007 as a classroom assignment/experiment. It was meant to serve as a guide for applying ‘bookish’ knowledge to the real world in order to gain experience. During my final semester at Kent State University, I had time to reflect on my own intense college, and academic, experience.
After spending a year and a half as an ’exploratory’ student and an additional semester studying abroad, I finally declared a major. To some, trying to complete a four-year program in two and a half year was academic suicide. Somehow I made it out alive and intact with a 4.o GPA in my major and some amazing PR experiences to boot.
From student and professional organizations, to networking and career path development, to internship after internship, Experience PR was my insight on how to combine all the elements of a well-rounded collegiate experience to make a smooth and successful entry into the public relations profession. I made that transition, but not without sacrificing the blog.
Now, two years later, Experience PR is staging a comeback as a resource not only for those looking to enter the field, but for those already gaining experience in the profession. It’s a look at how to hone your skills, gain industry knowledge and decide where to go from here. I’m only two years in, so this is still new to me. I hope my perspective is helpful to those of you in my shoes, and a fresh breath of air for the seasoned professionals.
I’ve set out to enjoy and experience PR– have you?
